The Monferrato: an area to live in
The Monferrato is a hilly area of Piedmont, in north-west Italy, between the provinces of Alessandria and Asti. Since 2014 it has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage site “Vineyard Landscapes of Piedmont: Langhe-Roero and Monferrato”. It is not a single destination but a network of villages, farmhouses and small towns around Casale Monferrato, the centre for services and daily life.
Hills, vineyards and landscapes
The landscape alternates vineyards, woods and small villages of stone or tuff, often perched on hilltops. It is an area you travel through slowly, where a view over the vines is as much part of everyday life as the services of the main town.
Villages and towns to know
Each town has its own personality: some people want town life in Casale Monferrato, others prefer the wine-country views of Vignale, others fall for the stone houses of Cella Monte. Understanding the differences between areas is the first step in any home search.
Living here: services and opportunities
Casale Monferrato has schools, a hospital, shops and connections to Turin, Alessandria and Milan. The surrounding hill towns offer space, views and a slower pace of life, while staying a few minutes' drive from the main services.
Buying a home in the Monferrato
You will find very different properties: apartments in the historic centre of Casale, stone village houses, farmhouses and cascine with land, villas overlooking the hills. The choice depends on what you are looking for: a structured daily life, a second home or a more rural life project.
